Do You Know The Glass Laser Cutting Process?

Glass is an important industrial material used in many industries of the national economy, such as automotive, construction, medical, display, electronic products, small optical filters as small as a few microns, glass substrates for notebook flat panel displays. Large-sized glass sheets used in large-scale manufacturing fields such as the automotive industry or the construction industry.

The remarkable characteristics of the glass are hard and brittle, which brings great difficulties to the processing. Conventional glass cutting methods use carbide or diamond tools and are widely used in many applications. The cutting process is divided into two steps. First, the Building Laminated Glass is made of a diamond tip or a carbide wheel to create a crack on the surface of the glass; then, the second step is to mechanically separate the glass along the crack line.

However, there are some drawbacks to using this method for scribing and cutting. Removal of the material can result in the formation of debris, debris and micro-cracks, which reduces the strength of the cutting edge and requires a further cleaning process. The development of laser technology has brought solutions to these quality problems.

Unlike conventional mechanical cutting tools, the energy of the laser beam cuts the Ultra Large Laminated Glass in a non-contact manner. This energy heats a specified portion of the workpiece to a predefined temperature. This rapid heating process is followed by rapid cooling to create a vertical stress band inside the glass where a crack free or crack occurs. Since cracks are only generated by heat, not mechanical reasons, there are no debris and microcracks.
